The Bride!!

 

Hi everyone!  Last week I did a post on a bridal consutation.  Needless to say the wedding day arrived this past Saturday 3/12/11.  It was a pleasure doing this Bride.  She didnt wear makeup but yet in still wanted to look flawless on her special day!  Like I said in my consultation post she picked her colors.  They were beautiful purples. I added the gold just to set the purple off plus it was one of the colors of her wedding.

This was my first wedding of 2011!  I was excited to do this wedding because it kicked off Bridal Season for me. I knew being this would be the first wedding of the year I had to bring my A game.  I wanted everything to be flawless about her makeup (no pun intended)!  Because I knew with this one wedding could bring more.  I didnt do the bridesmaids but even still it's all about the Bride!

I was sorry that I couldn't stay for the wedding so that I could have possibly met some soon to be brides or clients but duty called in two other parts of town.  I was on the MOVE!  Lol 

You can best believe that I have looked at the pics and critiqued them a thousand times.  I see a flaw here or there or something that I could have blended more or gave more attention to.  But thats why I've learned to take my own pics so that I can have a constant reminer of what not to do next time.  Sometimes I don't need the pics because the minor mistake coud be something that sticks with me or in my head to never do again or try a different way next time.


Also before I finished the look especially after the foundation I would take a pic just to see how it would look or turn out in photos.  But all in all it was a great experience and shall we say......."On to the next one!"

Bridal Consultation

Today I'm making  a post about a recent Bridal consultation that I had.  It was my first Bridal consultation of 2011.  I had touched on some bridal tips a few weeks ago and said that I would continue to do a series of Bridal tips as we head into the bridal season.  With that being said what better way to start the bridal season with a consultation. 

A consultation is so important when dealing with a a bride to be.  The consultation should be centered around what the bride's vision is for her makeup for her big day.  With the consultation you find out important things that you need to know such as :  Do she have any allergies, what foundation can't she wear, does she want airbrushing, does she need tatoos removed, where is the wedding located, how many bridesmaids will you be applying makeup for, colors of the wedding and of course the date and time of the wedding.

With my Bride to be she wore absolutely NO makeup.  I figured she'd like to look like herself but just a tad bit enhanced.  But here is were the consultation comes in and usually I find interesting once you ask the bride is there any particular eye color she'd like or anything specific.

Well my bride said her colors were a deep purple and yellow.  She picked a pretty purple and it was a plumish dark purple.  It shocked me being that she didnt wear makeup at all!  But I'm here to please the bride.  She picked the dark purple and when I swatched it for her she said it looked a lil dark.  But she had also picked a lighter purple with gold reflects to go with it.  I showed her a way to get the dark purple without it looking like a black eye!  Lol  she loved it.   I also put a lil bit of goldmine by mac in her tear duct area just to brighten her eye up and add that touch of yellow gold that she described in her color's of her wedding.

I thought the look came out very nice considering she doesn't wear makeup at all.  I've looked at the pics several times to critique my work.  After looking at them I decided when the wedding day comes I will give her more  setting powder  and maybe warm her skin up just a tad bit more.  But all in all she was pleased!

Hey everyone! I'm back! I've been researching on how to build a better bridal business and came across this article I thought would be perfect for my readers. Before I decided to use my make up skills as a business I did mainly Brides! Well looking back on it which it's been some years ago. I now know some things that I did wrong in the Bridal business. In 2011 it's so much more to just doing make up for a wedding. 1. What are you offering your Brides? 2. Do you consultate with your bride prior to the date? 3. Are you offering any type of discount to the bride for a certain amount in her party? 4. What are some of your marketing ideas for reaching brides? 5. Do you follow up with the bride after a consultation just to make sure you all are still on the same page? There are so many things to consider when trying to please a bride to be! I've just listed a small amount of things to take into consideration. But much more to be explored. I will try every week to do a column on Bridal business. Hey guys! Im getting better at my blogging. Tonight I'm sititng up and I'm scrolling through FB and Twitter and I see most of my counterparts(MUA's) had alot going on this weekend. So I really noticed this on Friday but just continued to watch and observe. I asked myself why am I observing and not BUSY!? Why dont I have any gigs lined up? It's wedding season for crying out loud. So once again I started pulling long hours on the computer and researching, googling and back and forth between the two sites and ofcourse my lovely You Tube. Some You tube videos on branding yourself I had watched a thousand times over. One particular Guru I watched hasnt been on YT in months but has posted to fb and has been busy so I felt maybe her insight might be of some help. One thing that she said that I took and thought that I had learned was to trade services with phtographers. Well honestly and I'm just being honest....hey it is my own blog I can say what I'm thinking right! As I was saying honestly I did that! So it got me to thinking well maybe I didnt do it long enough. I traded services for a little while with photographers didnt I? Wasnt that enough? I've networked right? So I thought it through thoroughly and realized maybe I gave up too easily with the trading services. I guess I looked at it like this....I've invested so much money into my kit I needed to see a return and quick. So I stopped going on Model Mayhem, I turned down free gigs and basically was waiting for work to fall in my lap. I'd participate in a few but really didnt want to do free gigs. Also I shoud mention this particular guru's make up seemed to have gotten better. Not that it wasnt good to begin with but each pic seemed more and more detailed. Then it came to me! PRACTICE! Whether she was doing free gigs or paid gigs she got the practice! Also I assumed that with a few trade gigs she developed a repore(sp) with some models, photographers and stylist or whomever and began to get paid gigs. So I realized that sometimes you have to do things for free to gain knowledge in your skill and also work. So I decided to go back on Model Mayhem and search gigs even the negotiable ones and Tf/Tfcd and just see if there would be something that I was interested in. Needless to say I responded to a casting call that was paid but the photographer contacted me back saying that it had ended but he liked my port and would consider me for future gigs. Well within a day he inboxed me back and has a gig for me this weekend! I was excited until I realized my anniversary is this weekend but I worked it out and now I have work! Heuleluah! Lol This industry is rough at times but it's my passion and I love what I do. Like anybody I get discouraged at times with it but even though I want to give up something inside of me says keep going, keep striving, keep researching, keep googling, keep practicing and just keep going!
