NYX concealer in a jar!

I couldn't wait to blog about this concealer!  Honestly I'm a product junkie!  I buy products to try out to see if I like them or if they will be great for my kit. Needless to say I had been wanting a great yellow concealer.  I had this concealer in my kit for some time now.  I had never used it.  It was always one of those "just in case products".



  Well yesterday I had a shoot and I had three models.  All of my models so happen to have yellow undertones to their skin.  So I go to start my process of concealing one of the models(my very first one) and noticed she had alot of red acne scars but also a yellow undertone.  I took care of the red with ofcourse my green concealer which I used MUFE.   So I started in with my process of highlighting and said Hmmm I need a yellow based concealer or foundation. As much foundation I buy I didn't see anything in my kit that would compliment my model's face.  So low and be hold this little jar is staring at me!  So I took my spatula and grabbed just a lil bit and begin to apply it to the highlighted areas.  OMG!  I was amazed!!  It was creamy and smoothed and went on well with my non latex sponge!

So now time for me to apply the foundation and realized I needed more yellow in the foundation.  I always custom blend foundations.  9 times out of 10 I custom blend.  I've pretty much done this process since day one!  So I had some left over yellow concealer and my foundation was rather thick so I added my embroylisse moisturizer(just a smidget) and got to mixing.  Can I tell you that the color was dead on!!!!!  The moisturizer helped to thin the foundation out.  Being she had alot of red scars the green took care of that so no need to pack it on.  But in areas where the scars set up off the skin I applied more and immediately set it.

I wish I could have taken a pic of her before and after!  As always you know the first client to sit in your chair gets the most time and attention.  Even with covering her acne or breakout what ever the case may have been I still finished her face in 30 mins!!  Usually it takes a little longer when you have to cover so many scars.  I was impressed with this little jar!! Yesterday was the first time I had used it.  I see me replacing it soon.

As I continued to use it with my other models I realized that it could be used as a corrector with pretty much anything.  I've read on MM's forum of artist suggesting different correctors from different companies,  Some expensive to the not so expensive.  So for now this will be my yellow corrector! 

Also I used some of it to apply to the lid and applied my shadows.  I swear I want to go get the rest of the corrector shades.  I purchased it from a beauty supply store.  Not sure of the price I paid there but I do know that the website offers it  for $5.50.  Not bad for all that it does.

Defined Crease Tutorial with MAC Rebel Lipstick

Rebel is one of those lipsticks which can work on absolutely any skin tone, from the palest to the darkest. It looks great sheered out to a stain too or made into a gloss by mixing a tiny amount in with some clear lipgloss. It's really versatile and tends to be a favourite among make-up artists. I paired it with very neutral eyeshadows here but I think the defined crease and winged black liner still inject just enough drama to balance out the deep lip. You can of course also use this eye make-up with just about any lip colour!

1. Appy MAC Painterly Paint Pot as a base. Next, apply a good amount of MAC Vanilla eyeshadow all over the lid all the way up to the brow. Doing this ensures that the shadows which will be applied later will blend really easily. 

2. Apply MAC Gesso eyeshadow to the lid on a flat brush, keeping it below the crease. 

3. On a large fluffy brush like the Illamasqua Blending Brush sweep some MAC Wedge eyeshadow onto the area slightly above the socket line.

4. On a pointed brush (I'm using one by Louise Young) apply a darker brown shade into the crease. I mixed Urban Decay Buck and MAC Embark to get the shade I wanted. The pointed brush should create a very defined line in the crease with the eyeshadow.

5. Take a MAC 217 or a similar blending brush and blend the top edge of the darker brown where it meets the lighter brown shade. Now just keep applying more dark brown and blending it. You can apply more of the lighter brown too if it begins to get lost. 

6. Run some of the Urban Decay Buck eyeshadow underneath the eye on a flat brush like a MAC 242. I also applied a tiny bit of MAC Carbon eyeshadow very close to the lower lashes on an angled brush to define my lash line. If you already have dark lashes and a dark lash line you may not need to do this.

7. Line your top lash line with a cream/gel or liquid liner. I used Clinique Cream Liner on a MAC 210 brush.

8.  Line your waterline with an off white pencil. I used Make Up For Ever's Concealer Pencil. On a small brush, apply a shimmery eyeshadow to the tear duct area as a highlight. I used a Make Up For Ever Star Powder for this.

9. Apply mascara to top and bottom lashes. Add some false lashes and you're done! 

Here's the finished look. The eye make-up is really quite simple - it just requires some good blending work!

NYX Smokey Eyes Eyeshadow Palette: Awesome Neutral Colours!

The latest addition to my palette collection is definitely a kickass one - I officially have gotten my hands on the NYX Smokey Eyes Eyeshadow Palette! As you know, NYX Cosmetics is pretty hard to get here in Asia, so I just have to show off! By a stroke of luck, I won it on Makeup Merriment's giveaway awhile back, and, boy am I glad to have this!



Isn't this thing gorgeous? It's so pretty, I can't bear to touch it yet - but I will eventually!

It comes in the cutest paper box, with a very alluring photo of a smokey eye. The Smokey Palette comes in a simple plastic packaging.



Here are the colours all laid out for you in their beautiful glory. I love how there are a bunch of awesome TAUPES in there, along with the standard range of greys.

One from The Body Shop when I was about 14 I think! I don't know how I remember that.

Topshop 'Show Off'

4. What is your favourite lipstick brand?

I like MAC for their huge variety of colours and finishes. Another favourite is Chanel since I don't think their lipsticks can be beaten in terms of texture.

5. Favourite Pink?

I don't wear true pink lipsticks too much. I recently picked up Topshop 'Show Off' lipstick though and I've been liking it a lot so I think that has to be my new favourite pink.

6. Favourite Nude?

I don't actually wear nude lipstick much anymore but I used to wear MAC Patisserie a lot which is a great natural shade. I tend to use this a lot on other people too.

7. Favourite Peach/Coral?

It has to be MAC Vegas Volt which is a fantastic bright coral. This looks great when it's sheered out a bit too so that becomes a slightly softer coral shade.

8. Favourite Red?

Well since red is my favourite lipstick colour I couldn't pick just one! So the three that I love are: Chanel Rouge Allure in Flamboyante, Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Monte Carlo and MAC 'MAC Red'.

9. Favourite Hot Pink?

Dior Addict Lipstick in Collection. It looks red in the tube but it goes on as a hot pink.

10. Favourite Brown?

Hmmm.....we've moved on from the 90's I think! :D

11. Favourite Rosewood?

Chanel Rouge Coco in Organdi Rose. This is a lovely rosey shade which is great for a very natural look. My photos don't do it much justice I'm afraid!

12. Favourite Plum?

MAC Plumful. I like this one in winter especially.

13. Other Favourite Lipsticks?

MAC Hibiscus (limited edition), Chanel Rouge Coco in Orchidee, Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in Heartbreaker, MAC Milan Mode, MAC Lustering and MAC Media (not one I'd wear on myself too much but I really love dark vampy lipstick shades and this one is beautiful for those that can pull it off!).

14. Favourite Lipglosses?

NYX Round Lipgloss in Doll Pink, MAC Lipglass in Hot House (limited edition), Illamasqua Intense Lipgloss in Petulant, MAC Ample Pink Plushglass and MAC Love Nectar Lustreglass (looks lovely over coral lipsticks).

NYX Single Eye Shadow in Peach Bronze

I got this shadow because I wanted to buy something, honestly. Haven't you ever gone into a store set on buying something, and when you find that they don't have what you want, you'll still buy anything, just to buy something. Well I do that (and my boyfriend recently called me out on it)

I went to ULTA and they were having a buy1 get 1 sale on NYX, which is why i went there, to get some jumbo eye pencils and lipsticks. I ended up with 3 products because they were sold out of the eye shadow i wanted (they were sold out of a lot of stuff, though I love my ULTA they need to stock up better)

So instead of putting back a lipstick I decided to utilize the sale and grab just any old eye shadow that caught my eye, and was available.

That's how I ended up with peach bronze.

Now with that whole story out there, let me say how much I LOVE this shadow. In the pan and swatched on my wrist it comes off a peachy/golden/bronzey shade which I was excited about, but on my lid its comes off more of a true gold. And I love golds. It all depends on how you apply the shadow. Sweeping it on (like how I did it on my lids) will give you more of a gold look, but patting it on will give you a peachy shade (like I did swatched on my wrist.) 

 

I have never owned a single eye shadow by NYX before, I only have those look kits (which you can see here and here) but the shadows don't compare. While the shadows in the look kits are great, the single shadows (I'm guessing in general based one the one i own) are AMAZING. Buttery soft and smooth. The pigmentation is to die for. I now understand why people are gaga over these shadows. 

Peach Bronze is a color that I use without any other shadows. I am able sweep the color on my lid and then blend it into my crease creating a very easy and beautiful look. Even used with other shadows this shadow will be the star of the look. I am in love with it.

Pros: pigmented, smooth, soft, blendable, versatile

Cons: fallout

I am recommending this shadow to everyone. I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy this shadow and give them out to some of my friends.

NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils

These are one of those products that most people who know anything about makeup have, and that everyone who makes YouTube videos raves about, but I am here to say, that I agree.

I mean what can I say, these pencils are amazing, and a lot cheaper than MAC Paint Pots.

I had never heard of jumbo pencils or even NYX before I started watching YouTube videos about a year and a half ago, but then again I didn't really care because I wasn't into eye shadow, I barely even owned any. Then almost a year ago, BAM! I want eye shadow. I was to do crazy looks and wear it everyday, so what do I do? I go on YouTube and look at tutorials, and recommended products. But I thought all I needed was the eye shadow, and bases were based on preferences. But no. Just like shadows are always better with a primer, some shadows show up better with a base.  

                                          *french fries, lime, strawberry milk, cottage cheese, yogurt*

Bases aren't needed every time, for every shadow or every look, but they're helpful to have. Especially when you just bought some amazing looking shadows but the colors aren't popping on your skin like they do in the pan. A base would come in very handy in that situation. I like how you're eye shadow can transform when using different colored bases. For the most part they go on creamy, but I find that milk, the matte white shade, is more dry and can come off chalky, I'm wondering if its just mine, or if the matte shades are like that in general. Other wise the shimmery ones i have are creamy and blend out effortlessly, which is good because if you don't blend it out, it will crease. I love how milk can brighten any eye shadow look and how each base can give the same eye shadow a different look.

 

Pros: creamy, blendable, many color options and finishes, MAC Paint Pot dupes, portable, easy to use, pigmented

Cons: can crease if too much producted is used, some products might be chalky

I recommend this product to everyone. Bases can really transform your look and these are affordable and worth the hype. I hope to get more.

NYX Haul

Hi Girls!!

Almost two weeks ago, I ordered some NYX Lipsticks and Eye Shadows from Cherry Culture, they were having a 50% discount in all NYX makeup, so I said why not? It all arrived today. I am very happy with all the things I ordered, the eye shadows are so pigmented, and the lipsticks are amazingly creamy and moisturizing.

In this post I will only show you the eyeshadows with swatches, tomorrow I will do another post showing the lipsticks.

Quase há duas semanas a traz, encomendei umas coisas da NYX na Cherry Culture. Encomendei uns batons, e umas sombras. Aproveitei uma promoção que estava no site que tinha tudo da NYX a 50% de desconto. Hoje chegou tudinho, e fiquei super contente com as sombras e com os batons, as sombras são super pigmentadas, e os batons sao muito cremosos e hidratantes.
