DIY Beauty: Pore Strips

Like a lot of people I often get black heads on my nose and chin, but what are blackheads, and how do you remove them?

Blackheads are a yellow or blackish bump or plug on the skin that is caused by excess oils that have accumulated in the pore. The substance found in these bumps mostly consists of keratin and modified sebum (an oily secretion of the sebaceous gland), which darkens as it oxidizes.

The best way I have found to remove them is by using pore strips. There are a few different ones on the market and the can range between $6 - $34 for 6 depending on which brand you buy.

But what do you do when you don't have the money to go out and buy pore strips? The following is an inexpensive recipe for your on DIY pore strips at home

You will need:
- 1 tablespoon Unflavored Gelatine
- 2 tablespoons Hot Water
- small bowl
- clean brush (I normally use a foundation brush)

Mix the unflavored gelatine and water together in your bowl until it's a honey like consistency. Dip your brush into the melted mixture and test the temperature on the back of your hand to make sure it's not too hot. Brush the mixture all over your nose and wait for 10 - 15 minutes to dry. When it's completely dry on your nose, peel it off slowly.

It is always a good idea to test this mixture before you use it just in case you have a reaction. I hope this has helped some of you DIY people out there, let me know how it works out for you
