Nail of the Day: Wednesday 13th July, 2011

My last nail polish began to chip and I decided I wanted to wear a nail polish of mine that I haven't tried out before.

This is a colour I brought home for my friend Emma when I do her manicure next time she comes over. The colour is China Glaze "Entourage", a light lime green shimmer which is pretty much opaque in three coats.

I kinda like this colour, just something bright and cheery in the cold winter weather. Something different than what I normally wear. To be honest, I used to think that green nail polish used to make your nails look like they were diseased, but this colour doesn't really have that effect.

On a different note, I noticed something today. Recently I have been watching a few Jack Nicholson movies, which include "Something's Gotta Give", "As Good As It Gets" and "The Bucket List" to be exact, an in all these movies they have one song in common, "La Via En Rose" by Louis Armstrong. Just a little bit of trivia for you lol.

Nail of the Day: Friday 8th July, 2011

So I have bee craving a change from my dark nail polishes and wanted to wear something bright and in my favorite colour.

China Glaze "Shower Together" a cream medium teal blue nail polish from the Ecollection (2008). This is my "cheer me up when I am feeling low" colour, even though it is a cool tone which should make me more upset but it does the opposite. I love the cream finish polishes as well so this has a favorite colour and a favorite finish, perfect combo!

I would like to find more teal colours. As some of you may know by now, teals and purples are my favorite colours. I have LOTS of purple nail polishes, but I would like to get some more teals, so if you have any suggestions please let me know.

China Glaze Lubu Heels + Nails Inc Trafalgar Square = Awesome Bling!

Don't you just love how cool my nails look right now? I love how this looks - just like red stars in a deep, black sky, or burning embers in a bed of lava. This look was actually two polishes layered together. For the base, I used China Glaze Lubu Heels, a black jelly with small red glitter, one of the classics in their permanent collection. However, it wasn't quite blingy enough for me, so I layered Nails Inc Trafalgar Square over it. Nails Inc Trafalgar Square consists of large chunks or red glitter in a clear base - perfect for layering over Lubu Heels!

I'm always been a fan of both China Glaze and Nails Inc, and both of these were polishes I bought awhile back but never used as often as I liked (although I've previously used Trafalgar Square in another NOTD, one that's really old.)

China Glaze Lubu Heels Nails Inc Trafalgar Square 3

Both these brands generally work very well on me, and the application for China Glaze and Nails Inc was quite trouble-free for glitter polishes. As always, since the glitter does tend to clump up in some places, you do need to work a little with the brush to try to ensure as even a distribution of glitter as possible. Otherwise, I had no issues with application.

Both China Glaze and Nails Inc wear well on me, so this lasted for around 3-4 days before chipping. That's pretty decent for me, so I have no complaints about lasting power.

I love my nails, and I love the glitter and bling. Although I don't always use glitter polishes, I can't wait to do another manicure like that again!

Nail of the Day: Tuesday 28th June, 2011

I decided to change my nail colour today because my previous nail polish had been chipping with the things that I had been during my week.

Yesterday was my 8 months with my boyfriend, Stuart, so I got him to pick out this nail colour for me. China Glaze "Gussied Up Green" is a blackened dark blue green which shines really bright when the light hits it. This polish is also from the Rodeo Diva Collection (2008) like the last nail polish I posted.

This was definitely my favorite polish from this collection because I don't own that many green nail polishes and I love the darker tone of this.

I really love wearing dark colours like this in winter. I like how they appear really dark on their own but when the light hits them the show up a flash of colour. What are your favorite polishes for winter?

Nail of the Day: Thursday 23rd June, 2011

This week I have been feeling really sick and I haven't been in too much of a happy mood so I decided to paint my nails to make me feel better. The nail polish I chose to use is called China Glaze "Wagon Trail" and is from their Rodeo Diva Collection from 2008. (I currently only have pictures from my old blog to post of my nail polish so I'll update this properly another time.)

As you can see it is a black with a deep golden shimmer. In some lights it can have an olive green look to it but its really is black and gold and is very unique.

I haven't found anything else like this in all my nail polish searching (mind you, I'm not as hung up on nail polish as some people).

I felt like this was the perfect colour for me at the moment because its been so cold and gloomy at my place the past few days with it being winter, I felt like I needed a dark base with a gold flash that might brighten up my day.

Polka Dot Mani Fail with Essie Foot Loose

Edited to add: Get 10% off your Born Pretty Store purchase with coupon code MH10K31 - expires Oct 31, so you can purchase happily til then! (Note: I don't profit in anyway from the code. I'm just sharing it with interested readers.)

After seeing all those awesome cool manicures featuring dotting tools, I decided that despite my lack of hand-eye coordination and general clumsiness, I just HAD to try one out. That, and I wanted to bring on a summer colour on my nails. That's how I ended up with this monster of a manicure. I have to admit, while there wasn't anything wrong with the tools I used, my dotting skillz are teh suckz. Seriously.

I got my dotting tools from Born Pretty Store, which has been popular lately among bloggers and nail polish lovers for its ready availability of cheap and cheery nail art suppliers, including crackle polish, stickers, rhinestones, etc. The dotting tools I got were just under US$5 for a set, and are available here.

These dotting tools are of good quality, and quite handy to use. You get a set of 5 dual-ended dotting tools. All five have two ends.

dotting tool bornprettystore 1

One end is all the same size, a standard size that would be handy for most designs:

The other end of the tools is more interesting for girls who really want to dot in all sizes. The ends of the tools range from really big to positively tiny, and would definitely satisfiy any dotter's needs.

For the dot manicure below, I used Essie Foot Loose because it was such a lovely summer colour - girly, bright, and still a little spunky. And since it's in the colour family of pinks (in this case bright purply-pink), it's wearable to the office! And unlike other Essies which tend to be sheer and streaky, this is a one-to-two coater, depending on thickness of application.

For the dots, I used the dotting tools and Wet n Wild White. One of the best white konading polishes ever, now used for dotting. FOr the variously sized dots on my nails, I used the large end of the green dotting tool, and the large end of the pink dotting tool. I also, for smaller dots, used the white dotting tool.

I know the dots don't looks as nice as they could be, but that's realy due more to my lousy application than anything else. After all, all dotting tools are the same right? But looking at these photos makes me feel like from far, they aren't THAT bad, right, right? *Crickets chirp*

Anyway, I love the colour of my mani, even if my dotting skills suck. It kind of reminds me of summer - bright, and polka dotted, and just generally cheery!

(Dotting tools were sent for review. Review is my complete and honest opinion. I am not affiliated with/compensated by the company.)

Born Pretty Store products - Review, LOTDs, pics & more...

Hi beautiful ladies,

Today I’m going to show you some products from Born Pretty Store. It is an online store about which I've already introduced you earlier.

First one is an interesting product which can be very helpful in doing makeup looks even when I want something different or even an odd look..hahha..hey sometimes I do experiment with my looks. This is a 30 Color Lip Gloss Gel Lip Sticks Makeup Cosmetics Mirror which is sent by Born Pretty Store.

  • 30 Color Lip Gloss Gel Lip Sticks Makeup Cosmetics Mirror

30 different gloss & lipstick shades are present in this palette along with a mirror.

The numbers indicate the shades used in the LOTDs

Price
$7.77

Packaging

I love its packaging. It’s very comfortable to carry out.

It seems like a compact file which is very light weight. It opens like a file and inside it; there is a mirror on the above portion. The shades are covered with a transparent plastic shield for protection.

In the mirror of my own experience

On seeing it for the first time I loved it’s packaging and different shades. Some shades which are not commonly available in India are also present in this palette. It’s not a costly palette so I was not expecting much from it. After applying some shades on my lips, I realized that some shades look lovely but some are so weird especially the milky pink one, looks like a tooth paste on my lips. I was very disappointed but some shades like pink, brown, peach, red and copper etc. made me satisfied. I’ll not tell that it’s a great product but sometimes will be helpful in makeup. It’s cheap in cost so the beginners who want to experiment with their looks can try it.

Good points

Very nice packaging, so easy to carry along.

It gives lot of options to apply different shades on your lips.

The quality of some shades is really good like the 2, 3, 4, 5th.

If you want a lighter shade you can mix the initial one with the white shade to get a lighter version.

The mirror is helpful in applying the shades.

You can make your own shades by mixing others.

Bad points

Some shades are really bad & look like tooth paste....give a very bad finish.

No brush is provided with this palette for applying the shades.

Some shades are useless in this palette like the green, black etc.

There is absence of some shades like purple, violet etc. Even the brown range is less.

Here are some LOTDs which I tried using this palette...which one do you like?

Final thoughts

Overall it’s an OK sought of product. As far as the price is concerned you can give it a try once coz some shades are beautiful!!

Rating

2.75/5

Recommendation

If you can ignore some bad quality shades, you can try it for experimenting because some shades are nice and look pretty on the lips. The quality of some shades is good.

I love using false lashes so thought of trying some falsies from Born Pretty Store as well & these are the ones that i received. These eyelashes come with a professional white eyelash glue. They are easy to apply & give a nice natural look & aren't very dense. The white glue; Eye Charm, is very impressive as it comes with a helpful applicator and makes application of falsies very easy & quick. A good choice to try out at a price of only $4.16

So this was all about the false eyelashes from Born Pretty store. They have many more so you can order your fave ones!!

  • And finally we get onto the last product that is Youthful Light Blue nail polish

Net Weight

16 ml

Price

$2.59

As you all know that born Pretty Store mainly deals with nail polishes & nail art stuff, so this time I thought of trying one of their nail polishes. This was a beautiful color so i chose this. Glides on smoothly & gives a flawless finish. It's a gorgeous shade so I'm giving this nail polish in my 700 Followers giveaway.

Finally...

Finally i can say that all these products are pretty satisfactory. Born Pretty Store products reached me in 14-18 days only & the package arrived very safely. So don't hesitate much & order some great nail art stamps & other stuff from Born pretty Store.

Glitter Gal Holographic Nail Polish- Review+NOTD

If you are familiar with my blog you must have got an idea that I'm not a nail polish lover. You'll always get to see my nails bare. I rarely try out a nail polish on my nails and because of this I'm not good at all in applying nail paint on the nails. But when i received this lovely nail polish from Kerry of Glitter Gal, I couldn't wait to try it out. Some products make you a fan of those things also that you aren't used to...isn't it?
So let's see what i have today.

Glitter Gal Not Another red
It's a prismatic polish to which they call holographic 3D nail polish.
The holographic range are light reflective, chip resistant and long lasting.

Some words about their Holographic Range

We use “true” holographic particles in our formulation. This one ingredient is 30 times more expensive than any other nail polish ingredient. Thus making our holographic nail polish the highest quality possible. You will notice the smoothness to the finish of polish, and reflective effects are amazing. They are also the “Big 3 Free”.

Many other companies have tried create holographics, but use the more affordable ingredients, which don’t give the polishes the same effect, we didnt want to compromise on quality and wanted to deliver to our customers a true holographic formulation. I hope this helps.

The shade
This nail polish has an amazing glittery pinkish-red color. There's something about the color-changing, sparkle filled gorgeousness which surely makes your nails beautiful.

Price
AUD 11.95

Net wt.

In the mirror of my own experience
When I was applying this polish on my nails, I was a bit worried that whether this shade will suit me or not. I'm not good at applying but when i applied it on my first nail, I was pleasantly surprised to see its smooth & perfect finish. As I gradually started applying more of it, i realized that it's so easy to apply this. It gives a lovely finish itself. You do not have to work hard for it. I absolutely loved it!! The polish went on perfectly. It wasn't too thick nor too thin. There were no bald spots or streaks during application. It goes on extremely smooth and dries very quickly to a hard duable finish. It was just perfect!

Good points

It's a holographic nail polish which is difficult to get everywhere.
Very easy to apply.
Spreads on very smoothly & gives a beautiful finish.
The glitters contained in it look adorable!!

There are 31 shades available in this Holographic range...most of them are gorgeous colors so you can choose your faves from among them!! You can check out those shades-HERE
It's a small sized bottle so you can change your colors whenever you want coz bigger bottles often get wasted.

Bad Points
Some may find it a bit pricey if compared to other nail polishes.

Final thoughts

Finally I would love to say that it's a gorgeous nail lacquer & if you are a nail polish lover you should definitely check out some gorgeous colors from Glitter Gal.
