Neutral Toned Eyeshadow Tutorial

This is the same eyeshadow look that I'm wearing in my previous post (Neutral Eyes, Red Lips). I just thought I would show you how I went about doing it! I use more or less this same technique for any eyeshadow that I wear. The names of all the products are listed below but here's a photo of everything that I used anyway! ...

1. Apply MAC Painterly Paint Pot as a base all over the lid. You can of course use any base or primer that you like. I just prefer Painterly because it covers redness and leaves a nice blank canvas. I apply this just using my finger.

 2. Blend MAC Soba eyeshadow onto the outer half of the lid and into the crease with a fluffy blending brush like the MAC 217.
3. Using a flat brush like the MAC 239, bring some of that Soba eyeshadow underneath the lower lash line too.

 4. Using the same 217 brush that was used before (I just wiped it off), apply MAC Dazzlelight eyeshadow to the inner half of the lid. Take a bit onto the tear duct area too. This opens up the eye.
 5. With a small pointed brush (I'm using the Laura Mercier Crease Brush), take some of the golden brown shade from the NARS Surabaya Duo and apply it to the very outer corner and slightly into the outer part of the crease so that it creates a 'c' shape.
6. On the 239 brush take some of that NARS eyeshadow underneath the eye - only on the very outer part of the lower lash line.

7. Now the harsh shape of that darkest eyeshadow needs to be blended out. Take a bit more MAC Soba eyeshadow on the 217 brush and go back into the crease with this, using it to blend out the dark NARS eyeshadow. I tend to blend in both windshield wiper and small circular motions.

8. Take some MAC Vanilla eyeshadow (or any shadow which is about a shade lighter than your skin tone) on a MAC 222 brush and apply it under the eyebrow on the brow bone. This adds a bit of a highlight as well as softening the edges of the crease colours, making sure everything is blended really well.

9. Line your top lash line and wing it out if you want to. I'm using a cake eyeliner and a Louise Young LY24 brush. I've already done a winged liner tutorial so if anyone wants to take a look at that you can do so here. Line your water line too with whatever you like to use (I use Clinique's Cream Liner in black). Apply mascara and that's it! You can always add false lashes here too - I used half lashes with this look in my previous post.

Voila! Hope that was somewhat useful! Here's the finished look (you can also of course see the full effect of this look in my previous post!) ...

Lush Dirty Range- A preview

Clean, Fresh, Invigorating, Sexy

NEW! Dirty is uncompromising and fresh. Its clean, herbal character stands at odds
with its name. It’s a no-nonsense fragrance that hits you with intensely crisp spearmint,
thyme and tarragon, and the subtle smell of calm seas. Dirty is an invigorating, cathartic
breath of fresh air that stirs up something primal.

Resurrected from B Never too Busy to be Beautiful, Dirty is for people who care about
their appearance but can’t be bothered with too much paraphernalia in the mornings.
They are pretty active in their lives and want something to keep them smelling good
throughout the day.

Mark: “A real wake-up call, Dirty is choc-full of uplifting notes, including the fresh herbs
thyme and tarragon. Oakmoss and sandalwood are woody, but also very clean and a
little sophisticated, too. Basically, it does the business.”

Dirty takes the common idea of ‘layering’ with beauty products a little bit further. Mark
Constantine, comments: “We’re all used to layering – different products with supposedly
the same perfume. However with Dirty, we’ve created a new fragrance concept.
Layering in the old-fashioned sense is a bit tedious; it feels like it’s all about link sales.”

Simon decided to take Dirty as a complete fragrance and break it down to its individual
components, each of which is a beautiful perfume in its entirety. Each of these
fragrances was then used in a different product in the Dirty range. “I thought that if you
really want to harmonize yourself (in scent terms), you need to extract the different parts
(of the perfume) and put them in each product you’re using (in your grooming regime).
By the time you’re finished, you’ve put the fragrance together”.

Normally, grooming products will all have a different scent. However, this new concept
of layering means you can shower in invigorating spearmint and seasalt, shave with
soothing lavender, style hair with candellia wax and coconut oil and deodorize with
antibacterial thyme. Once all of these products with their individual fragrances have
been used, the combined scent will be that of Dirty, and can be topped off with the
body spray.

The Range:

Dirty Spring Wash Shower Gel ($9.95 for 3.3oz, $17.95 for 8.4oz, $26.95 for 16.9oz)
Don’t be a dirty rotten scoundrel. Recreate your very own mountain spring and wash
with this tingly, softening, minty shower gel for the body and hair.

Shaving Cream ($12.95)
Shave it all off using our ultra-softening oats and benzoin shaving cream. There’s also
lavender and honey in there to soothe any irritations.

Hair Styling Product ($12.95)
Refresh your coif with our conditioning and softening, firm hold styling product. Made
with fair trade coconut oil, linseed gel and balm herb infusion for the perfect just-got-out-
of bed style.

Body Spray ($19.95)
If you don’t have the time for a full-on Dirty routine in the morning, take a quickie instead
and spritz yourself liberally with this body spray before you head out the door. No one
will ever know.

The Dirty range will be launching in all LUSH stores the end of May!

Deep Purple EOTD with a Cheap Palette!

Ah, purple - one of my favourite colours both on the nails, as well as on the eyes. This gorgeous deep purple eye look is courtesy of my awesome 26 Colour Eyeshadow and Blush Palette, which I got from KKCenterHK. This time, I decided to go for placing the darker colour on the lid, instead of in the contour area, and I think it worked!

Deep Purple Eye Look

Here are the two colours that I used. The purple is was used on the lid, and the shimmery brown was used on the contour area.

The colours were pretty good, pigmentation-wise. The purple, having a more matte finish, had less pigmentation than the brown, but can still be built up for a more intense eye look.

And here's a look of the eye from a weird angle, just so you can see the blending of the eyeshadows. For some reason, although the purple is a bit more matte, it looks shimmery in the photo due to the blending, and the shimmer from the brown shadow got into the purple colour.

I like this look a lot, I think it's dark enough to be smokey, but not dark enough to look like you have a black eye, so it's quite versatile that way. I'm starting to like that 26 Colour Palette, as it can be used to produce quite a variety of looks.

(Product was sent for review. Review is my complete and honest opinion. I am not affiliated with/compensated by the company.)

My next Billboard Beauty is Beyonce! Ms. Bee! Mrs. Shawn Carter !

Once again another great smoky eye with nude lips! Trend maybe? I just absolutely love this look on her! The outfit is a key factor in bringing this look together! The hair says "I can't be Tamed!" " I like the wild side!"

Even though this pic shows her getting her dance on and with a little added sweat her makeup is on point! It's not budging! I can still see where she was highlighted and contoured and its flawless as always! What more can you say!!

A023 Eyelashes from KKCenterHK By thestudentsguidetonailpolish

I recently got the opportunity to try some false eyeslashes from KKCenterHK. (Not an affliate link. There are no affliate links on my blog)

SAM_8073
Being somewhat of a newb to false lashes, I went with one of the more natural looking pairs. There are literally hundreds and hundreds on the website - in all different colours and styles, so there's something to suit everyone. I wanted some that I could wear to school without having the Head of Year asking me to remove my wall of lashes on the off chance that I blinked.
SAM_8074

They're made of like a fine, plasticky material, and are very easy to put on (once you have the hang of it, that is...whole other story involving the worst eyelash glue I've ever used in my life, but that's another review) but I find the lash band can be slightly too long for my eye, so I trim them a little bit at the end depending on how close to my tear duct I've decided to place them. They're reusable, too, which is great. For the entire box (10 ~ 12 lash pairs) it's a pretty cheap price, I think around five to ten dollars? Depends which designs you choose. These were really cheap, like $5.

SAM_8072

And some pictures of the lashes in action. Blurry, naturally. Sorry :P

The gold eyeliner is by BeautyUK (their Metallic Eye Sparks) and the black is Sleek's Ink Pot. I like the way it looks on, and it doesn't flake - but melting in the corner of my eyes is an issue...
I didn't mascara my natural eyelashes before I applied these ones, but they seemed to blend in quite nicely. To reuse them, I remove them carefully and then rub gently with some olive oil - this removes any persistant lash glue. Wipe down and replace in the container, and that way you can get quite a few uses. All in all, I think these are really good value for money.

I've recently opened up to the world of Asian webstores, and also have some stuff I purchased from a couple of others to show you at some point - BornPrettyStore, anyone? Wanted to see what all the hype was about...
